Parisian Chic: Ines De La Fressange

Ines De La Fressange is tres chic. She is French, lives in Paris, a former Chanel muse of Karl Lagerfeld and now the style ambassador for French luxury shoes and bag maker, Roger Vivier. Believe it or not, Ines is now 60 years old and she still looks so beautiful, so chic in an effortless way and so slim in that French way. She has definitely aged gracefully. At her age, she still loves to wear flare skinny jeans and wears it with an amazing style. As you can see, she wears all Roger Vivier shoes and bags where ever she travels around the World to promote the brand. She also owns her own shop in Paris under name, has written several books about Parisian Chic and Mon Paris and also write her own Blog. You can even follow her Parisian life and style at Instagram for inspiration. Ines is defintely an admirable and accomplished  woman who is comfortable in her own skin.

I admit and call it a style crush but Canadian designer, Tanya Taylor is definitely making big waves here in Toronto, New York, Washington DC and as far west as California among Hollywood ladies. Tanya was born and raised here in Toronto, studied finance in Montreal at McGill University then the design bug took over when she enrolled in London's Central Saint Martins and at the Parsons School of Design in NYC.  Tanya has now launched her own fashion house based in NYC where all her clothes are made and sold in various major department stores from Holt Renfrew in Canada, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth, Neiman Marcus, Modus Operandi and her on-line shop here.

Tanya is her own best model for her collection. Her youthful, original and stylish designs are admirable. Tanya even designs her own prints. Tanya is definitely walking towards the right direction to success.

Queen Elizabeth II At 90

This week the Queen celebrated her 90th Birthday. She is one of the world leaders and women that I admire because of her longevity, dedication to serving her country and people, survivor, and so incorruptible. Well, she is the only Queen of UK I know ever since I was born. It was like growing up with the Queen always there. Then my family moved to Canada which brought us more closer to the Queen and her royal family.  I wish some world leaders will follow her example by being less corrupt and be more dignified. I wish the Queen a longer life to live and a better quality of life in her older years.
The Queen was not born in a Palace but at 17 Bruton Street in London's Mayfair on 21 April 1926 and was christened on 29 May 1926 at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family stayed in Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle during WWII. The Queen learnt to drive in 1945 when she joined the Auxiliary  Territorial Service as a Subaltern.

The Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in 2007.

The Queen is a keen photographer and enjoys taking photographs of her family.

The Queen became the longest reigning monarch on 9 September 2015 surpassing Queen Victoria's long reign. Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen in June 1952 at 25 years old. She is the fortieth monarch since William The Conqueror obtained the crown of England.

Every day of every year, the Queen is kept fully briefed on matters affecting the realms and Commonwealth.

The Queen has visited 117 countries, travelling at least 1,032,513 miles during her reign.

Queen Elizabeth is Patron of 626 charities, organisations and military regiments.

Dream Heels At Tanya Heath

During a summer's stroll along Yorkville, here in Toronto, my friend and I became curious on this boutique with floral display windows. As we ventured in, we discovered that this is the new shoe store of Tanya Heath, a Canadian luxury shoe designer now residing in Paris, France. To our great discovery and delight, it turned out that this is not any ordinary shoe store. This is an extraordinary and unique luxury shoe store with stores in Paris and London. Tanya created the first shoes with changing heels. You purchase the shoe plus several heels according to your own liking. As you can see here, the heels on offer are from stiletto, high block heels and low block heels which comes in different colours and designs.  You can wear one shoes from day to night then change to different heels to update your look. My friend and I were delighted to discover these shoes and will definitely come back in our next shopping expedition in Yorkville. Best of all, these shoes are Made in France. Isn't that amazing?
How to change the heels? Click the internal button in the shoes for easy changing of the heels.

The Sales Associate modeled for us. Same sandals with different heels - one is the high block heel and the other is the stiletto heel. This is genius!

The good news is that Tanya's shoes are available on-line.  Tanya's shoes are one of a kind!

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

During my vacation in London last week,  fellow blogger and friend, Paul who is the author and owner of the Blog, Magical Christmas Wreaths  and I had a chance to visit the latest and hottest exhibit in London, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty  at the Victoria and Albert Museum.  This exhibit was originally shown at New York's MET Museum to very popular acclaim. After several years, it is now in its hometown in London, where everything started for Alexander McQueen.  I learnt many things about the man, his talent, his inspiration and most of all his accomplishments in all of the different designs that he produced. The whole exhibit was exhilirating, mesmerising and amazing! This is all due to Alexander McQueen. I learnt from the exhibition that his inspiration came from London, his Scottish heritage, from religion, Gothic, from opposing ideas like life and death, different cultural tribes, even Asian influence like some Japanese design elements among others. He used real horse hair, real feathers dipped in gold, snakes skin that were dyed to look like fabric, among others. It was truly a breathtaking exhibit. Photos are not allowed in the Exhibit but we managed to take away some photos here. Thanks to Paul for this wonderful time that I will remember forever!
I was intrigued by these masks that Alexander McQueen made for his models to wear during the Fashion Shows. They are so creative and well-structured.

Alexander McQueen had so many different Collections which were all superb and original. But one thing that he was consistent with is his talent for tailoring which you can see up close in the clothes. The Alexander McQueen Fashion house is now designed by Sara Burton who is a long time staff of Alexander McQueen.  Long live McQueen!

The Exhibit is from 14 March - 2 August 2015.

Amazing Pope Francis

During Pope Francis' first visit to the Philippines last week, I learnt to admire this man through his action and his words. I am Roman Catholic and the Pope is the Head of our Church with its headquarters at the Vatican City in Rome.  Pope Francis is God's representative here on Earth, head of the Roman Catholic Church, Vicar of Christ and also Bishop of Rome.  His State visit to the Philippines carried the theme of Mercy and Compassion because he wanted to meet the Filipinos in Manila and to visit last year's super typhoon Yolanda survivors in Leyte, Southern Philippines.

When Pope Francis arrived in Manila to start his State Visit, he was greeted like a rock star by thousands of Filipinos who waited for hours along the streets. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia. The country is composed of at least 85% Catholics. So it was not surprising that the Filipinos gave the Pope a massive, friendly and loving welcome in the country.  Watching all these on TV, I admire Pope Francis now because he never wavered from his mission of representing God and Jesus here on Earth, he is very simple, down to earth and despite rain or shine he was out there to be with the people. In this time of trouble, terrorism and all negative things around us, we are blessed to have Pope Francis who is a symbol of God's goodness, mercy and love here in Earth. I hope we will never forget that regardless of our different religions.
Some of you lost part of your families, all I can do is keep silent, and I walk with you all, with my silent heart. - Pope Francis to the crowd in Leyte.

During his trip to Leyte, Southern Philippines, he was greeted by thousands of people and by an incoming typhoon. It was pouring rain when he arrived with his entourage. The typhoon did not scare or stopped him. The Pope wore the same rain poncho as the rest of the crowd showing that he is one with the people. He continued to celebrate the outdoor mass at the airport despite the rain and strong winds. The Pope told the people that when he saw the super typhoon Yolanda last year from Rome, he felt that he had to be here to visit the survivors. If you remember, super typhoon Yolanda devastated the island last year with massive floods that destroyed villages and killed almost seven thousand people.  Unfortunately, his day visit to Leyte was cut short because of the typhoon. But the Pope still completed all of his commitments there through a shorter visit.
The Pope delivered a very emotional speech in Spanish to the people of Leyte.
After the mass at the Manila Cathedral, the Pope broke protocol by exiting at the side entrance of the Cathedral to cross the street to place a surprise visit to this Shelter for Street children. This surprise visit to the poorest of the poor in Manila, was very touching to everyone especially giving joy and love to these abandoned and street children. Pope Francis is known to serve the Poor.

Here are some advise from Pope Francis to families:

The mass at the Luneta Park in Manila was attended by almost 7 million Filipinos, a record in the whole World. Pope Francis asked us to pray for him.

Thoughts On Freedom

As I was looking into my photos of my trip to Paris last October, I came across my photographs along Rue Bonaparte on the Left Bank, 6th Arrondissement of Paris. This part of Rue Bonaparte  between the Jardin de Luxembourg and Place Saint Sulpice are lined with the traditional Parisian Bookstores that sell all kinds of French books and also several Publishing and Editorial Offices.

As I walked along, I was intrigued by this ancient sign on the wall indicating this date 29 Juillet 1881. Upon my research, it turned out to be the Law on Freedom of the Press of 29 July 1881, commonly known in French as Loi sur la liberté de la presse du 29 Juillet 1881. This is the Press Law in France which defined the freedoms and responsibilities of the media and publishers in France.

These photos are now meaningful with the recent events in Paris. Our freedom of the press and speech were attacked by extremists in Paris last week. Our societies in the Western World have established Press Laws which honour the freedom of the Press and Speech. We are aware that those who break the law will be punished. The  French showed the World during the Unity rally last Sunday in Paris, that they are brave and encourages us to continue the fight for our freedoms that our ancestors have fought for many centuries ago. We are not afraid. #JeSuisCharlie.

Michelangelo: Quest For Genius

Last Weekend, we visited the Art Gallery Of Ontario (AGO) to view their latest exhibition about Michelangelo: Quest For Genius. The exhibit showed several of Michelangelo's drawings from his Casa Buonarroti Museum in Florence. These drawings showed Michelangelo's creative process in completing his masterpieces. In every genius there were torment, struggles and then mastery. Michelangelo learnt to draw people from actual live models and cadavers. He drew every human body part, down to the muscles and individual features of the model. He used these drawings as practice to create the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the Last Judgement, his paintings and sculptural works like the Pieta and David. This exhibit showed Michelangelo's humanity and at the same time his master genius. Michelangelo is for me the best artist of them all just because he created the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the last Judgement, the Pieta and David. These are priceless masterpieces that show the history of mankind and connects us to the great power of God.

The drawing on the right is the Madonna and Child.

French sculptor, Auguste Rodin, greatly admired Michelangelo. Rodin traveled to Florence and Rome to study Michelangelo's technique. Rodin applied what he learnt to his bronze sculptures that are displayed in Paris at the Musee Rodin. The Exhibit here at the AGO included some of Rodin's sculptures to compliment Michelangelo's drawings. Michelangelo Exhibit is now at the AGO till January 11, 2015.
