Canadians do know how to have fun and celebrate our winter. We try not to hibernate despite the cold and snow. Instead, one weekend in February at Bloor-Yorkville in Toronto, we celebrated the Icefest 2015 with this year's theme of Frozen In Time. This year's 10th Anniversary Ice festival brought into icy life the dinosaurs, ancient-Egyptian culture with Pharaohs, sphinx, an Iris ancient bird with clock, chariot, Egyptian Gods and ancient Egyptian animals like the snake and the Egyptian cats. The winner this year, was the dinosaur, carved in ice, forever frozen in time.
Then forward many years later, there was a magnificent carving of India's Taj Mahal carved from one block of ice. Even in ice, the Taj Mahal looked so grand and majestic.
This year, there were so many people that it took some patience to take photos. But despite the huge crowds and freezing temperature, there were DJ music, food stalls and drinks offered all for the benefit of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Even in winter time, we do have fun for a good charitable cause.
This is a Canadian treat made from maple syrup which is boiled then spread on ice here. It is eaten like a lollipop candy.
