Weekend In The Yucatan Peninsula

During our visit at the Riviera Maya, Mexico during the Christmas holiday, we joined a day tour to visit the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. This area is famous for the cenotes, underground water caves made of fresh spring water and the historical ancient pyramids built by the Mayans. Looking back now, this tour was not just a sightseeing tour of Mexico's best sights but told the story of Mexico's ancient history starting with the Mayans who built the pyramids 500 years AD at Chichen Itza based on their mathematical genius to predict days, nights, seasons, farming and harvest. The pyramid that they built is a national treasure. Then after the Mayans came the Spanish conquerors who colonised Mexico to Catholicism. Everywhere we visited around Mexico, there is always the statue of their patron, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Of course, visiting Mexico will not be complete without tasting their tequila at the Museo del Tequila inside the Hubiku. Our visit in Mexico exceeded our expectations. We did not expect to learn and see so much about the country, the people and their culture. We were able to enjoy their resort and beach at luxurious leisure but at the same time discover their country's history and meet local Mexicans who are welcoming and proud of their nation.

Tequila tasting inside the Museo del Tequila. Do you know that cocoa was discovered in Mexico which led to the development of the chocolate? Not surprising, they have a Chocolate Tequila that tasted so delicious.

Beach At Riviera Maya

There's no other place like a beach. My family and I spent our Christmas in the beautiful Riviera Maya in Mexico. The beach there was white sand with clear blue salty water of the Caribbean Sea. Guests at the resort were surprised by Santa Claus arriving in a seadoo on the beach. We all enjoyed Santa's gifts and entertainment by the beach. Afterwards,  we all enjoyed swimming on the incoming waves and then walking on soft white sand with the numerous palm trees swaying with the wind by the shore. I even joined in the fun of swimming with the fishes by the dock. I did it to challenge myself and to bring out my adventurous self which I hope to be more this year. With the snow storm coming on today, I wish I am back here at the beach, relaxing and enjoying the view under the palm trees. Any New Year's resolutions for you this year?

Happy New Year!

Time flies by so fast. It's almost the New Year as tonight we celebrate New Year's Eve. There are so much to be thankful for as we remember they year 2017. My family and I are spending Christmas and New Year in a resort in the Riviera Maya in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It will be warm and sunny there with the beach nearby. For sure in Toronto, it will be cold, hopefully not snowy but for sure still festive as ever. At Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square, there will ice skating and a New Year's Eve concert and fireworks extravaganza. No matter where you will be, the most important thing is to be with family, the people you love, be thankful for the past year and always be hopeful for the year ahead.

Wishing everyone lots of joy, prosperity, love and peace in the New Year!
