Happy Thanksgiving

This long weekend in October is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Its a time to celebrate together with family and friends over dinner with the turkey with stuffing, mashed potato and pumpkin pie, although my favourite is the pecan pie made with Canadian maple syrup. It is the perfect time to indulge and enjoy the food together with family. One of our favourite places to visit is the Niagara On The Lake, near Niagara Falls. This is the perfect place to visit during Spring, Summer and Fall. There is Main Street to stroll for shops, wine tasting and filled with many restaurants offering local produce on their menus. We enjoy visiting the truly Canadian shop of  Greaves Jams that produce and sell jams made from local produce like strawberry, peach, grapes from nearby wineries and fruit farms  They even sell the famous ice wine jelly. After shopping, join one of the local wineries tour to learn about making wine and best of all enjoy the wine tasting. We also enjoy visiting one of the Vintage Hotels for brunch. We are thankful for this beautiful country Canada as we celebrate our 150th year of Confederation this year. We are thankful that we Canadians are compassionate towards others and our environment. We love, enjoy and take care of our beautiful and prosperous country.

Weekend In The Pillar & Post

I celebrated my birthday last June here at the Pillar & Post located in the Niagara On The Lake region. The Inn is a member of the Vintage Hotels Collection.   We had Brunch and visited the outdoor swimming pool which was a perfect place to hang out to quench the summer heat. The Inn also boast one of the best Spa in the region with its 100 Fountain Spa, indoor saltwater pool and the outdoor hot spring pool which can even be used during the Winter. Their Spa offers a variety of services that will soothe the body from head to toe, mind and soul. As you can see, the lobby shows elegance, country style comfort and chic. The Sunday Brunch at Cannery Restaurant offered a variety of  gourmet food from cooked pasta dishes, meats, seafood, fresh salads, pastries, cakes and even your own cooked omelet plus the variety of local Niagara Wines grown around the area. The Inn is now one of my favourite places to visit during the Summer as it offers a variety of services from dining, spa and even swimming at their pools for their Guests. If you will get a chance to visit the Niagara On The Lake region, try stopping by the Pillar & Post to rejuvenate and discover this gem.

Weekend In Niagara On The Lake

Niagara On The Lake is one of my favourite towns to visit during the Summer Season. The town is located in South Western Ontario near the Niagara River and the famous Niagara Falls. During Spring and Summer, the town just burst with a display of colourful flowers, patios in the restaurants and full of tourists mostly from the United States, Asia and Europe. One of the things I love about the place is that the restaurants in the area offer food from local fresh produce from the Niagara Region including the multi awarded Ontario Wines which are also produced in the area. As we drove on the way to the Town, we passed by many Wineries showcasing rows after rows of their vines plus their variety of fruit farms. Most of the fruits grown here besides the grapes are strawberries, peach, pears and raspberries. Visitors can stop by the Wineries to sample and purchase the wines. There is also Queen Street which is the main street full of restaurants with patios and a variety of shops offering food, fashion and home wares. Before visiting the famous Niagara Falls, stop by Niagara On The Lake to discover so much more.
Shaw Cafe is one of the restraurants along Queen Street offering the best food, wine and patio in town.
The Prince of Wales Hotel established since 1864 is one of the oldest Hotels in the Niagara On the Lake Region. The hotel is part of the Vintage Hotels Collection in the region. The Hotel offers an elegant Afternoon Tea inside and also a Spa. I will feature another Vintage Hotel in the region in my future post.
Queen Street is blooming with beds of colourful flowers.

Stroll along Queen Street to explore the Shops and restaurants along the way.
Window display of some of the shops along Queen Street is this freshly made caramel popcorn. Would you like to try some?
Above are some freshly baked Canadian Maple Syrup Pecan Butter Tarts and chocolate covered banana on sticks.
Apple candies covered in chocolate and marshmallows.
Locals and visitors hanging out in the Restaurant Patios enjoying the local food and wine produced around the Niagara region.
