Happy Thanksgiving

This long weekend in October is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Its a time to celebrate together with family and friends over dinner with the turkey with stuffing, mashed potato and pumpkin pie, although my favourite is the pecan pie made with Canadian maple syrup. It is the perfect time to indulge and enjoy the food together with family. One of our favourite places to visit is the Niagara On The Lake, near Niagara Falls. This is the perfect place to visit during Spring, Summer and Fall. There is Main Street to stroll for shops, wine tasting and filled with many restaurants offering local produce on their menus. We enjoy visiting the truly Canadian shop of  Greaves Jams that produce and sell jams made from local produce like strawberry, peach, grapes from nearby wineries and fruit farms  They even sell the famous ice wine jelly. After shopping, join one of the local wineries tour to learn about making wine and best of all enjoy the wine tasting. We also enjoy visiting one of the Vintage Hotels for brunch. We are thankful for this beautiful country Canada as we celebrate our 150th year of Confederation this year. We are thankful that we Canadians are compassionate towards others and our environment. We love, enjoy and take care of our beautiful and prosperous country.

Celebrating Canada150 At Canada's Wonderland

Here in Canada we are still celebrating our Canada 150 anniversary of Confederation all year long. One way we celebrated it was at the Canada's Wonderland to watch some stunt shows which included diving from a waterfall and those wild rides like The Bat rollercoaster which moves forward and then backward. Try it, it is exhilarating. We also ate so much including the funnel cake with 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, topped with M&Ms chocolate, all chosen by my nephew, Alessandro. We had such a wonderful time here that we can't believe summer is almost ending.

Clevelands House Ski Show

One of the summer traditions at Clevelands House Resort at Lake Rousseau in Muskoka, is the Monday night ski show. This is held right after the Buffet dinner that they have at The Lakehouse Restaurant in the resort. Right after dinner, guests and visitors gather on their lawn for the best view of the lake and the ski show. The two hours show features music, entertainment right from the water skiing experts and the highlight are the champion fly boarders which are just so cool to watch. I can't believe that summer is almost winding down. Let us enjoy every last moments of summer outdoors appreciating the natural treasures in Muskoka.

Abbey's Bake House

One of our favourite places right on Lake Rousseau, in Minett, Ontario is this gem of a place called Abbey's Bake House. The bakery is located right by the lake and inside a 19th Century church offers freshly baked goods from their delicious blueberries and lemon muffin, banana chocolate chip muffins, cheese scones, cranberry scones, croissants, focaccia bread with bacon, Canadian maple syrup tarts both plain or with bacon, pies, coffees plus their gelato in different flavours and new soft served ice cream with a variety of toppings. These are all available right at cottage country in their delicious store both in Minett and in Port Carling. This place can be reached through your boats, cars or even by foot from Clevelands House Resort nearby.  Can't leave Muskoka without visiting this bakery and eating their delicious goodies.

Both of the Blueberry and lemon muffin and Banana chocolate chip are so delicious. The Banana Chocolate chip is just full of chocolate deliciousness.

Weekend In Lake Rousseau

One of the joys of Canadian summer is the visit to the cottage especially to our favourite place at Lake Rousseau, one of the premier lakes in Muskoka, two hours drive north of Toronto. Summer is a time to jump in the lake to swim, to kayak, canoeing, try the paddle board, water skiing or even do yoga right on the lake. One of the cool things in Lake Rousseau is that the Clevelands House Resort has Monday night ski shows which included fly boarding. The resort also offers day pass to enjoy the water amenities on their resort. One of the things that made our visit memorable is that we joined the bonfire to roast marshmallows and s'mores on the burning wood fire. As the saying goes, expect the unexpected as there was a surprising fireworks right on the lake in front of our cottage coming from the nearby JW Marriott The Rousseau premier resort. As we celebrate Canada 150, we are making the most of enjoying our natural treasures especially during this summer.
