Only in Toronto, that we can have fun and celebrate our snowy, icy and chilly winter with our own Icefest 2014 right in the heart of Bloor-Yorkville. Last weekend, the festival celebrated a Heat Wave Ice Exhibit with a display and competition of spectacular ice sculptures showcasing the tropics in Winter Toronto. We had fun discovering pineapples, sea animals, mermaids, some sun, all crafted in 20,000 lbs of ice. There were also several restaurants in the area that participated providing some drinks and food during the event. There was also live music to add to the celebration. This event was for the benefit of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. It is more fun in Toronto during winter as we celebrated and had fun with spectacular ice sculptures inspired by the tropics for a charitable cause.
Where is the pina colada?
Don't forget to bring your sunnies to the Beach. I dare you to sit on those little ice chairs?
Hang out and pose with your Hubby.
Better yet, hang out with the mermaids.
Try some wind surfing?
The Winner of the Ice Carving Competition was Frederick Marquina who designed and carved this magnificent Ice Sculpture of a scuba diver underwater with some fish.
Sea Horse and Dolphins.
Of course, there was a polar bear.
There was live music, some freshly made Crepes and limonana drinks from Crepes A-Go Go, donuts mobile and some freshly made pressed juices and macarons from Yorkville Espresso.
Here is a Ice tikki hut with palm trees.
May you have a wonderful and sunny weekend!

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing and something I would love to see for myself (although your photos have captured everything so well) The mermaids , seahorse and diver are my favourites, I have seen a few smaller ice sculptures in hotel restaurants for special buffets but nothing quite like this. Great post!
