Monterey, California.
We stopped by at Monterey, California, as we continued on our Road trip this summer from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Beautiful, seaside Monterey! As we arrived, I remember the loud singing of the sea lions welcoming us. I could not see them from the parking lot but I knew that they were there somewhere. As we walked along the Old Fisherman's Wharf, the sound of the Sea lions singing were becoming louder and louder. So I knew they were closer. So we walked along the Wharf, discovering several shops, some restaurants along the way gave free tasting of Clam Chowders. We saw an abundance of fresh and large lobsters, King Crabs, clams, mussels that you can partake in a meal. Then we reached the end of the Wharf to see the beautiful, blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.
In Monterey, we saw the whole endless coast of Northern California. The whole stretch of beach going all the way north. So breathtaking! Then finally we had lunch at Isabella's, an Italian Seafood and Steakhouse, that has been on the same spot since the 1960s. While eating lunch, we still heard the sea lions singing. Finally after our meal, around the corner, we found the sea lions. All lounging together under the sun, some of them happily swimming in the cool Pacific Ocean and their Male making sure everybody were doing fine. There were a large group of people already watching them in the Boardwalk. Even the Pelicans and the other birds were watching the sea lions with us too. It was a treat to see the sea lions and hear them singing in Monterey.
View of the Pacific Ocean and in the distance, the whole stretch of Northern California coastline.
The Marina.

A colourful and yummy temptation!
Restaurants offering free tasting of Clam Chowders.
Try some fresh lobsters and King Crabs?
There is also Whale watching.
Finally, the California sea lions. The Sea lion King (in Black) in his breading rookery. Apparently, the California Sea Lions have a polygynous breeding pattern.
Pelicans and Fishermen.
The birds hanging out in the Wharf, watching the Sea lions rookery.
Lunch at Isabella's.. A Restaurant with a View.
We had Seafood Paella.
Risotto with Coconut shrimp, swordfish and sweet potato. This dish tasted quite sweet and delicious!
A truly Molten Chocolate Cake, topped with Vanilla Ice cream with caramel sauce, whipped cream and slices of strawberries on the side.
Happy travels everyone!

hi Connie, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip this time. We saw the beauty of California!
DeleteWonderful pictures Pamela. You really are a dab hand at a travelogue. We made a fleeting stop in Monterey Bay and we had simple and delicious beer battered fish and chips at either the Duck Club or Schooners at the Monterey Plaza. The view from outside was lovely, lots of honking sealions below us:) We didn't have time to see half the things you seemed to have enjoyed. I'm thouroughly enjoying your journey.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul. Those fish and chips must be delicious too and as good as those in England. I am glad you are enjoying this journey.
