During the bitter cold last week, some of my friends last week shared that their skin felt so brittle dry even with the use of lotion. Here in Canada, our winters could be really harsh and cold which causes dry skin, dry scalp and dry hair. I learnt that to survive winter here in Canada, we must adjust our skin care regimen just like we change our clothes to adopt to the Four Seasons.
One of the products I use during Winter to combat dryness is the DHC Cleansing Oil made from Olive oil and Vitamin E. I have to admit that I am a convert to using a facial cleansing oil. I have combination Oily/Dry skin so I have never used any oil based products on my skin. But this DHC Cleansing Oil works well for me this Winter as it thoroughly cleans my skin from make-up, unclogged pores and removes any other dirt. It also moisturises that I now use a dab of Serum and moisturiser on my face. For sure, I cannot use this during the Spring or Summer because then my face will be all shiny from the oil. I also recommend the Shu Uemura Anti-Oxi Skin Refining Cleansing Oil which feature moringa and green tea extracts to combant pollutants.
My scalp also gets dry during Winter so I have loyally used the AVEDA Beautifying Composition Oil for my scalp. I used just a few drops and massage it to my scalp before using the shampoo.
Then for the Body, it is also very important to use a Body Oil. My favourite is the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil which forms into a lavish foam when mixed with water and used all over the Body. I also love the subtle smell of the almond all over the shower. It is not too overpowering but the oils are effective to moisturise the skin.
Believe it or not, I discovered the Aromachologie Collection from L'Occitane in the Philippines, a tropical country, when we visited there last October. The Shangri-la Hotels in Manila use L'Occitane as their giveaway toiletries. I tried all of these products when I was there and they worked perfectly for me. These products were made from Five Essential Oils: Angelica, Ylang-Ylang, Lavender, Sweet Orange and Geranium which are all grown in the Provence region in France. These oils are used for the repairing complex in the skin and hair. Now I add them to my Winter skin care regimen especially the Shampoo and Conditioner.

ReplyDeleteHi Pamela! I suffer the cold a lot so my skin got soon dry and sensitive, lips first. I use oil too but not often as I should. I didnt try any of these, in particular Im signing the Aveda one for hair since I always find their products really good and delicate. L'Occitane stuff inspires me as well, would like to try that line. Kisses dear! xo
ReplyDeleteIn winter I use a lot of Neutrogena because my skin gets very dry. I see L'Occitane everywhere, they even had their bath products at the hotel I was staying at in Vienna. I really ought to try more of their products. Even today I had a discussion with a colleague who told me how much she loves their creams.
ReplyDeleteGreat list Pamela! I need to venture into this. Oils are so good for the skin. Jurlique sent me a bottle and I just love it. I know these are good. Thanks!

I often prefer oils to regular creams or other products! The Occitane range looks quite promising :)

Hi Pamela, this post was so helpful because I have never tried essential oils before and after reading about these I am so intrigued to try. Hope your week is going well hun.
ReplyDeleteOil I use every day and for everything is organic jojoba oil and for my scin it works perfectly. I used to have a lot of problems with acne and for me this oil is made in heaven:) Essential oil I use is lavender essential oil and I add drop or two in hair masks, in jojoba oil, practically in everything. Great post (I was thinking to try something from L'Occitane)!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite fragrance of choice is L'Occitane's Citrus verbena - it is wonderfully fresh and lemony - I love it. I must give some of their other products a try.
ReplyDeleteL'occitane products are so good. Shu Uemura cleansing oil is a great wash for the face. Doesnt make your face dry out at all, makes it smooth and baby soft!
ReplyDeleteI love l'occitane but I didn't know about these new products!
ReplyDeleteI used to think that oil was the strangest thing to use on your face, but I'm a convert! I haven't tried DHC's, but I've used Shu Uemura's in the winter.
ReplyDeleteEssential oils has helped me a lot in nourishing my skin and hair and it helped me a lot in winter days to keep my skin smooth.
